High-Performance Home Building

All of Envinity’s homes are constructed to meet or exceed EnergyStar requirements for energy performance.

Here are some of the features of our high-performance homes:

AIRTIGHTNESS:  Envinity’s skilled crew minimizes air leaks during every phase of construction.  Various caulks, specialty tapes and foam sealants are used to prevent air infiltration at critical intersections of floors, walls, and ceilings.  The finished home’s indoor air quality is maintained through mechanical ventilation, which brings just the right amount of tempered fresh air into the living space.

Building a high-performance home requires employees with tremendous skill. Our team of understands building science and attention to detail.

THERMAL BARRIER:  Proper insulation is crucial to an efficient and comfortable home.  Various combinations of products such as cellulose, spray foam, rigid foam board, or Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) may be utilized.  Care is taken to minimize “Thermal Bridging,” or heat-loss through the home’s building envelope.

MOISTURE MANAGEMENT (Rain Screen):   A Rain Screen system maintains air space behind the home’s siding.  Combined with a moisture barrier, this system provides a drainage plane and gives any moisture that gets behind the siding a chance to dry. This helps the siding hold paint and maintain its beauty and integrity for many years.

WINDOWS:  High-performance windows are an essential part of any efficient home.  We choose glazing and frame systems for balanced thermal efficiency and the proper amount of solar gain, as well as for durability and ease of use.

EXTERIOR CLADDING:  Siding and Roofing choices are chosen according to the goals of the project.  It’s often a balancing act between cost, durability, sustainability, and local availability.  Wood, fiber-cement, and masonry are some of our clients’ favorite choices for siding.  Popular roofing choices include asphalt shingles and metal panels.

HEATING, COOLING AND VENTILATION:  Our HVAC contractors install new systems and provides preventative maintenance to ensure your investment is operating at peak efficiency.  Our HVAC systems are designed to provide maximum comfort and reliability while minimizing operating costs and environmental impact.

We specialize in:

  • ductless heat pumps
  • high-efficiency ducted heat pumps
  • heat pump water heaters
  • condensing natural gas boilers
  • geothermal heat pumps

LIGHTING AND PLUMBING:  We specify low-energy use lighting such as LED bulbs and fixtures to help reduce energy usage.  We use plumbing fixtures that save water without compromising performance.
