Happy Veterans Week! We’d like to take this time to honor and recognize the invaluable contributions of millions of Americans who have dedicated their lives to protect our country. We also wanted to celebrate some Envinity team members who served and now have chosen to continue their career path right here in the energy efficiency industry.

Here at Envinity, we recruit partners that come from all walks of life. We know that working in and around your homes is a privilage and we pride ourselves on finding people who believe in our culture and apply their experiences to constantly help us evlove and excel.

Did you know that there are 236,000 veterans currently employed in the energy efficiency industry? For this Veterans Day, we wanted to ask our veterans to share their insights about what they’ve learned from their experience in the military and why there’s a strong connection between those experiences and the roles they play here at Envinity.

First of all , thank you for your service!

What branch of the military did you serve and what role did you play?

JL: I was a landing signalman in the US Navy from 1987-1989.  I worked on the flight deck on the USS Tripoli and directed aircraft during flight operations for minesweeping and Marine troop landing exercises.

EC: I did eight years in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard as an 11B Infantryman.

AP: I served in the United States Army reserve for 14 years as a food service specialist. My reserve units were in State College, Seattle, San Diego, and Bellefonte. I attended Basic Training at Fort Jackson, SC, and my Advanced Individual Training at Fort Lee, VA. At Basic Training I received the award for the highest physical fitness score in the battalion. At AIT I graduated as the distinguished honor grad.  I joined the military to follow in the footsteps of both of my grandfathers, who served in Europe, northern Africa, and Asia during WW2, and my older brother, and my brother in law.

PC: Army Medic. Let’s hope I never have to use those skills here!

What skills did you learn in the military that apply to your work here at Envinity?

JL: My service to the country taught me that with discipline and hard work you can advance quickly and be trusted with great responsibility.  Building trust with your team and demonstrating effective leadership is essential to accomplishing your mission, whatever it may be.

EC:  The training and experience I received in those eight years helped navigate me into a leadership role here at Envinity. Attention to detail is key in the military, and it is no different in a solar installation. The military taught me that everything has a process and order of operations which is fundamental in my success as a lead solar installer.

AP: In basic training they emphasized the Army values of Leadership: Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage. For me, serving in the Army gave me a greater appreciation for the diversity within the United States. It did not matter what your religion, race, or socioeconomic status was, we all wore the same uniform and shared in our commitment to protecting our democracy and upholding the values in our constitution.

In addition to showing  appreciation for the time that you served, thank you bringing your Envinity grit every day!

Thank you for bringing your curiosity and passion for the work and the people we serve.

Thank you for bringing your whole self and contributing to the great culture that we continue to build.
